The Many Benefits
of Planting Natives
Because native plants evolved right here, they work in harmony with our local climate, soils, pollinators, and wildlife. Planting natives helps us create landscapes that are not only easier to care for, but also more resilient and ecologically valuable.

Sustainable Gardening
Adapted to local soils and climate, native plants are resilient and require fewer resources — like water and chemical fertilizers — to thrive and look beautiful

Water & Soil Health
Deep root systems of native perennials and grasses filter stormwater, reduce runoff and prevent erosion, protecting streams and improving soil health

Pollinator Support
Native flowers and host plants provide the nectar and food that butterflies, bees, moths, and other beneficial pollinators absolutely depend on for their survival

Biodiversity & Balance
Native plants form the foundation of the food web. By planting them, we restore balance and strengthen ecosystems from the ground up

Wildlife Habitat
Seeds, berries, nectar, and shelter from native plants support birds, mammals and insects throughout the year — sustaining them through every stage of their life cycle

Beauty with Purpose
Natives add year-round color, texture, and movement — creating gardens that are not only stunning and dynamic, but also filled with life
Why Native Plants Truly Matter
Native Plants are the foundation of our local ecosystems
Native plants are the ones that evolved right here, alongside our birds, butterflies, bees, and other local wildlife. They play a vital role in keeping ecosystems healthy. They turn sunlight into food for native insects — especially caterpillars — which then feed baby birds, small mammals, and in turn, larger wildlife. Without native plants, this entire chain of life starts to break down.
Most caterpillars can only eat the leaves of specific host plants. Many birds rely on the berries and seeds of native shrubs and trees they’ve co-evolved with for thousands of years. Exotic plants from other continents simply can’t replace them. At best, they offer little more than decoration. At worst, they’re toxic or invasive — displacing the very plants our wildlife needs to survive.
Planting natives isn’t just about creating a beautiful, low-maintenance garden — it’s about restoring the connections that pollinators, birds, and ecosystems depend on.
When we plant natives, we’re not just gardening — we’re creating habitat, feeding pollinators, and helping birds raise their young. We’re bringing life to our landscapes.

Why You Should Care About
Native Plants
It's not just an environmental choice —
it's a practical investment in our
health, homes, and future.
When we strengthen local ecosystems and food webs, we’re also protecting our own well-being.
Pollinators supported by native plants are the same bees, butterflies, and moths that pollinate much of our food. Birds that rely on native seeds and caterpillars also help keep insect populations in check. Deep root systems of native plants improve our soils, filter stormwater, and reduce flooding in our neighborhoods. Diverse native plantings make ecosystems more resilient to pests, diseases, and climate extremes.
By planting natives, homeowners aren’t just helping nature. They’re investing in clean water, healthy soils, abundant food, and a safer, more resilient future for their families and communities.
